Ethiopia’s Hottest Music Videos and MP3s
Ethiopia has a long and rich musical history, and the music that comes out of it today is just as popular and well-loved as ever. From ethiopian music mp3 to ethiopian music video, the country produces great talent that’s influencing popular culture all over the world. Here are the top five hottest songs and most watched videos in Ethiopia right now.
The Culture

Reggae is at its best when it pulls from other genres. In fact, reggae’s rise to fame can be traced back to a man named DJ Kool Herc, who would sample breaks from funk songs in his pioneering turntable sets. Similarly, Ethiopian music—and indeed, Ethiopian culture—is all about embracing outside influences, from African rhythms to Middle Eastern sounds. Teddy Afro, one of the most famous Ethiopian musicians alive today, took up the guitar as a child before discovering Ethiopian pop through Sudanese refugees in Addis Ababa. He created Ethiopia’s first-ever soul band, Yegna Crew (named after the traditional female empowerment ceremony), which includes both male and female members and combines international styles with Ethiopian tradition.

The singer has become so popular that he had to temporarily flee his homeland due to political pressure on artists like him by the government of Ethiopia under president Meles Zenawi. It was during this time that Teddy Afro made one of his most successful albums yet: Addis Live!
The Golden Era
Teddy Afro is a pop star in Ethiopia. Well, he’s not exactly a household name for Americans (yet), but Teddy has conquered the charts at home in Africa with his songs that combine R&B, jazz, and hip-hop with Ethiopian lyrics. His music videos have received over five million views on YouTube, which may seem like small potatoes to you (Americans love YouTube!) but is extraordinary considering Ethiopia only has around 50 million people. Don’t have time to watch all of them? You can watch one of his latest hits below or listen to some of his best-known songs like Awetu Beza by clicking here .
The Modern Era

Ethiopian music exploded onto Western audiences when singer Teddy Afro released his hit single Abet in 2008. This was no surprise, as Ethiopians have long enjoyed some of Africa’s richest musical traditions. The country is renowned for its ancient cultural heritage, which includes playing instruments like drums, flutes, and tambourines; Ethiopian music in its modern incarnation has expanded to include drums played with wooden sticks, electric guitars, synthesizers, horns and trumpets.
